Hello World! Getting started with Ghee
Consider this an invitation, an introduction, and an opportunity to change the way you cook. An introduction to a new ingredient, a magical ingredient, an ingredient that after you use it once will make you wonder “Why am I only finding out about this just now?” I am talking about ghee of course.
For the sake of simplicity, I will just say ghee is clarified butter, a type of clarified butter, but let’s not get into to that just yet. I can wax poetic about the health benefits of ghee, and it is all true what you have heard, but let’s not get into that just yet.
You do not need a degree from Cordon Bleu Paris or be a Michelin star chef to have a transformative experience with ghee.
Let’s just start with a very basic, a very fundamental, a very simple act of frying an egg! Any competent human being can fry an egg! All I ask of you is to do is to conjure up your skills and fry an egg with ghee! Sunny side up, over medium, over easy, scrambled, omelet, it does not matter pick your style – your favorite, and fry it in ghee.
The addition of ghee will add a new dimension of flavor to an already delicious dish that you have enjoyed all your life, and make you wonder – where were you all my life! The umami of the subtle nutty savory delicious flavor of ghee with your eggs will be life changing. I promise.
I often wonder - if only the legendary chef Jacques Pepin took his famous omelet and replaced the butter with ghee. I am fascinated every time I see this legend make an omelet or for that matter anything. The effortless way he glides in the kitchen is just a sight to behold.
